Old School Spaghetti

Spaghetti and Ground Beef is a timeless dish that brings together the warmth of home-cooked comfort food with simple, hearty ingredients. This recipe has been a staple in many households for generations, and it’s easy to see why. The combination of tender spaghetti and rich, meaty tomato sauce makes for a satisfying meal that’s perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a cozy weeknight dinner or a special gathering with loved ones.

Ingredients :

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20)

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 1/2 cups onion, chopped

1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes

1 (16 ounce) can tomato sauce

1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar

16 ounces spaghetti

Garnish:

2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped

Grated Parmesan

Directions :

Cook the Beef:
Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and crumble into small chunks using a wooden spoon. Cook until lightly browned. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the beef to a plate.

Sauté the Vegetables:
Drain all but 2 tablespoons of the fat from the pan. If needed, add a tablespoon of olive oil. Set the pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 7 minutes.

Make the Sauce:
Return the browned beef to the pot. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and granulated sugar. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 1 hour. Adjust the seasoning as needed.

Cook the Spaghetti:
Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti in well-salted water according to package instructions. Drain the spaghetti well and toss it with the sauce.

Serve:
Sprinkle the dish with chopped parsley and serve. Pass grated Parmesan for topping.
